What actually goes into the price
Most companies quote a number and leave you guessing. Tree work is expensive, and it's fair to want to know why before you hear it. Here's what TC is looking at when he walks your property.
Size and spread
Height is only half of it. A wide, heavy canopy takes more rigging and more time than a tall, narrow one of the same height.
What's underneath it
The same tree in an open field and over a roof are two different jobs. Proximity to houses, fences, pools, and power lines is usually the biggest single factor.
Access
How close the crane and chipper can get. Parking beside the tree is a very different day than carrying every piece two hundred feet by hand.
Crane or climb
The crane isn't automatically the expensive option. On the right tree it means fewer hours on site and far less risk to everything below it.
Condition of the tree
Dead, hollow, or leaning trees can't be climbed the way a healthy one can. That changes how it has to come down.
Where the wood goes
Hauled off, chipped on site, or left cut for firewood — plus whether the stump gets ground. Each one changes the price, and it's your call.

"I can't recommend TC (owner) and Pro Trees Tree service enough. We had a monster tree at the back of our property that was declining over the years, and after years of effort trying to get the city or LG&E to do something about it we ended up having to take it down ourselves. We called around 10 different tree companies. Most of them took one look and never called us back. A couple others gave us quotes that made it clear they weren't interested in the job unless they could rob us. The tree was only accessible from the alleyway and was directly over power lines. TC not only came out and gave us a reasonable quote, he was very communicative as the situation changed due to weather, equipment availability, etc. He also did a great job of communicating with our neighbors and helping me to get everybody whose property needed to be used to access the tree on board.
